Welcome to Abandoned Toys' Website
Abandoned Toys was formed in late 2006 by composer Brett Branning, whose musical background spans neoclassical composition, film and game scoring, atmospheric instrumental music, and experimental sound design. Having studied classical piano and music composition from an early age, Branning developed a deep appreciation for the rich harmonic traditions of Western classical music long before beginning his professional career. His formal education culminated in earning a degree in music composition from the University of Oklahoma, where he further refined his understanding of orchestration, music theory, counterpoint, and contemporary compositional techniques.
Throughout his career, Branning has worked as both a game music composer and film music composer, creating music designed to support narrative, atmosphere, and emotional storytelling. These experiences helped shape his unique artistic voice, one that blends the expressive depth of classical composition with the immersive qualities of cinematic music and ethereal dreamy ambient soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of musical traditions, his work explores the intersection of melody, harmony, texture, and technology, resulting in compositions that are both emotionally resonant and sonically distinctive.
Over two decades, Branning's fascination with classical music forms and harmonies has been complemented by an equally strong interest in the evolution of electronic music and music production technology. Rather than viewing traditional composition and modern technology as opposing forces, he sees them as powerful creative partners. This perspective has allowed him to develop a musical style that combines the timeless beauty of piano music, orchestral composition, and classical harmony with contemporary sound design, atmospheric production techniques, and innovative digital tools.
This perspective extends directly to Branning's signal processing workflow. He often runs sounds and melodies through a complex chain of analog and esoteric effects, with particular interest in modular synthesis, granular processing, and spectral effects.
The music of Abandoned Toys often exists at the crossroads of multiple genres of music, creating unique and creative sound worlds unlike anything else by other composers. Gentle piano passages, ethereal textures, and expansive orchestral arrangements are woven together to create immersive listening experiences that invite reflection, imagination, and emotional connection. Whether composing intimate solo piano works or large-scale cinematic pieces, Branning remains committed to creating music that balances technical sophistication with genuine artistic expression.
Since its formation, Abandoned Toys has continued to build a growing catalog of original music for listeners who appreciate ethereal contemporary instrumental music with emotionally driven compositions. The project's releases are available through the legendary Mythical Records, where Abandoned Toys has established a reputation for thoughtful, evocative, and highly imaginative musical works.
